Though some have complained of the design being illogical or inconvenient, its numerous features overshadow all its flaws.
Moreover, the camera allows users to customize various functions, which is one of the best Canon EOS Rebel T7 features.
For example, you can assign the Set button a new function, such as silencing the camera’s beeper.
There are numerous ways to customize your camera. Today, in this article, we will help you learn how to customize your camera.
Note: The Canon EOS Rebel T7 (2000D) allows you to customize the function menu when the mode dial is set to P, TV, AV, or M modes.
So, let us look at some of the best ways to customize your camera’s functioning.
The primary function of the Set button is to select options from the Quick settings and the menu screen on the Canon EOS Rebel T7 (2000D).
You can assign different functions to the buttons while shooting in the AV, TV, P, and M exposure modes.
To change/modify the assignment of the set button, select the custom functions from the Setup menu (three) and then navigate to the custom function 9 buttons using the left-right cross keys.
The available alternative functions for the Set button include:
- Image quality
When you choose the image quality, a screen will appear where you can alter the quality of the image.
- Turning the LCD monitor on/off
This will either turn the shooting screen on or off, but it is essential to note that this function is unavailable in live mode.
- Adjusting flash exposure compensation
In this function, you can display the entire set to adjust the flash.
- Activating depth-of-field preview
The depth-of-field preview is an excellent feature on the Canon EOS Rebel T7 (2000D). By pressing and holding the set button, you can get a live preview of the image quality and how well the depth of field is captured.
This will help you learn about the f-stop you set for the image. You can see the preview on the monitor or any other monitor displaying the live view.
The display can become too dark when the f-stop setting is set high, limiting the amount of light entering the lens.
After you have altered the setting, you can save it or disable it to return to the default setting, which will return the device to normal mode.
Customizing the shutter and AE lock buttons on the Canon EOS Rebel T7 (2000D)
When you press the shutter button halfway, auto-exposure is initiated. When you push the AE button, auto-exposure is locked, which is the default function of the lock button.
If you are not yet familiar with the functioning of the buttons, you should always stick to the default settings for the buttons. But, as you become more familiar with the functioning of the camera button, you can slowly start altering the functions of the two buttons.
To configure the buttons, you can set the mode dial to TV, AV, M, or P. Then, you will need to navigate to the Custom Function.
There, you will find multiple functions, which we have stated below. A slash right before the option name indicates the result of pressing the AE lock button halfway down.
Here are details of the few functions that you will find in that menu.
- AF/AE Lock: The default button set initiates auto-focus when you press the shutter button halfway. Pressing the AE lock button halfway down locks the auto-exposure.
- AE Lock/AF: Pressing the shutter button halfway down locks the auto-exposure, while pressing the AE lock button initiates autofocus, reversing the default button functions.
- AF/AF Lock, No AE Lock: Pressing the shutter button halfway locks autofocus and exposure metering. Pressing the AE lock button locks focus, as auto-exposure lock isn’t available in this setting.
- AE/AF, NO AE Lock: When you press the shutter button halfway down in this mode, it initiates auto-exposure. When you press the AE Lock button, auto-focus will turn on. And when it is set in AI servo mode, it will initiate continuous auto-focusing when the AE Lock button is pressed. This is extremely helpful when you are shooting a continuously moving subject. The exposure of the picture will be set when you capture the shot.
Note: This design prevents focusing mishaps while using the AI servo Auto-focusing, a viewfinder shooting option.
When using the AI servo mode, the auto-focus motor is adjusted continuously when you press the shutter button halfway down, helping to keep the subject in focus.
However, if something comes in front of the camera while the shot is taken, the focus will be on the object rather than the subject.
The auto-focusing motor can be stopped by holding down the AE lock button. To restart the auto-focusing motor, you must release the AE lock button.
It is essential to note that you shouldn’t alter the default settings of the buttons unless you know how to restore them.
